Landyachtz Surf Life SurfSkate Birds | 31.5"
Retro shape, deep kicktail, endless carves.
The Surf Life borrows the shape of Landyachtz's Ditch Life series and turns it into a surfskate, here in the Birds graphic. It has a wide nose, a healthy taper and a deep kicktail for a retro, 80s-inspired look. It's built for riders who want to pump, carve and slash banks, and it suits most teens and adults looking for an all-round surfskate.
The deck is 7-ply Canadian maple with mellow concave and medium flex, finished with Landyachtz soft-top grip that has a foam layer for comfort. It runs the Bear Banger 130 front truck with a Polar Bear rear, on 65mm 78a Hawgs surfskate wheels with square lips and a glossy finish for loads of grip. The front turns deep and quick, the back stays steady, and the bigger kicktail gives you leverage for snappy turns.

About Landyachtz
Landyachtz was started in 1997 by childhood friends Tom Edstrand and Mike Perreten while they were studying at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Their first production run was pressed in a ski racing shed at Blackcomb, near Whistler. The company then moved to North Vancouver, first into a family garage and then into shared space with Invasion Snowboards, and it was there Landyachtz developed its own Bear Trucks and Hawgs Wheels. Tom Edstrand went on to win the IGSA longboarding world championship in 2005.
Today Landyachtz is still skater owned and operated, based in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver. It designs its decks, trucks and wheels to work together as one complete, from compact Dinghy cruisers and surfskates to dancing boards and downhill freeride decks. Through its One Board One Tree program, Landyachtz plants a tree for every board it sells. If you want a complete where every part was chosen for the deck it's bolted to, Landyachtz is a safe bet.
FAQs
What is the Landyachtz Surf Life best for?
Pumping, carving and slashing banks. The wide nose and deep kicktail give you plenty of leverage for surf-style turns, so it's at home on beach paths, car parks, ditches and skatepark banks. It's a strong all-round surfskate for surfers training on land too.
Is a 31.5" surfskate the right size for me?
Yes for most teens and adults. At 31.6" long and 9.5" wide it's a mid-size surfskate with a comfortable stance and a good balance of quick turning and stability. If you want tighter, snappier turns go down to the 29.6" Pocket Knife, or step up to the 32.5" Groveler for more room.
Is the Surf Life good for beginners?
Yes. The 9.5" deck and Polar Bear rear truck make it stable, and the soft-top grip is comfortable and confidence-building. The Banger front truck feels loose at first, so start on smooth, flat ground and get used to carving before you start pumping.
What is a surfskate?
A surfskate is a skateboard with a front truck that turns much further than a normal truck, so you can pump for speed and carve tight, surf-style turns without pushing. Landyachtz surfskates use the Bear Banger: a high-angle reverse-kingpin front truck with its own geometry and extra-tall bushings for a huge amount of turn, paired with a traditional-kingpin Polar Bear rear truck that keeps the back end stable and predictable. There are no springs or swing arms, so it feels loose up front but still pushes and cruises like a normal board.
Can I commute on the Surf Life?
For short trips, yes. Once you can pump you can cover flat ground with little pushing, and the 65mm 78a wheels roll comfortably over cracks and rough footpaths. For longer or faster commutes, a cruiser or longboard will be more efficient and stable.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.

Simply put, a surfskate is a skateboard for surfing the street. Surfskates use special trucks that enable riders to mimic the movements, feel, and flow of surfing. Surfskates were originally invented by surfers who wanted something to do on flat days. As time has passed, surf skating has proven to be one of the most enduring passions of skaters and surfers alike. Whether you love to skate or surf, surfskating is the closest experience you can get to gliding down and carving a wave.
