About Santa Cruz Skateboards
Santa Cruz Skateboards made its first board in 1973 under NHS, the company founded by Richard Novak, Doug Haut and Jay Shuirman (NHS comes from their initials). It calls itself the oldest continuous skateboard company, and it marked 50 years in skateboarding in 2023.
The Screaming Hand, drawn by artist Jim Phillips in 1985, became Santa Cruz's signature image and one of the most recognised graphics in skateboarding history. Decades later it is still the logo skaters reach for.
FAQs
Who is an 8.25" skateboard best for?
An 8.25" deck is a full-size board. It suits teens and adults, especially riders with bigger feet or anyone who wants extra stability. It's a great width for park, transition, bowls and cruising. If you mainly skate street and want quicker flip tricks, look at 7.75"–8.0". For younger kids, a mid or mini size (7.0"–7.5") is usually easier to control.
Is this a good skateboard for beginners?
Yes. It's a proper complete from a core skate brand, fully assembled with Bullet trucks, OJ wheels and ABEC 5 bearings. It's a big step up from cheap department-store boards, which use lower-quality parts that make learning harder.
Who designed the Santa Cruz Screaming Hand?
Artist Jim Phillips drew the Screaming Hand for Santa Cruz in 1985. It became the brand's signature image and one of the most recognised graphics in skateboarding.
What can I ride this skateboard for?
Learning to push and cruise, skateparks, ramps and bowls, and general street skating. The 8.25" width leans towards stability, which suits transition and carving.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness to suit you and go skate.

Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
