How should a snowboard helmet fit?

A helmet that moves on your head, digs into your forehead, or sits too far back is not protecting you properly. The right fit is snug but never painful, with the front sitting roughly two fingers above your eyebrows and no rocking when you shake your head.

What is MIPS and do you need it?

The Multi-directional Impact Protection System adds a low-friction layer inside the shell that reduces rotational force on the brain during angled impacts. Those are the most common type in snow sports, because you rarely fall straight down onto your head.

Will your goggles fit your helmet?

Your goggle needs to pair with your helmet for no-gap coverage across the nose bridge and the forehead. If there is a gap you get a cold stripe and snow works its way in.

When should you replace a helmet?

After any significant impact, even if the shell looks undamaged. The protective foam is designed to compress once and absorb energy in that single hit, so a helmet that has done its job has already spent its protection.

Beyond that, manufacturers generally recommend replacement every few years of regular use, because foam and shell materials degrade with UV exposure, heat in a car boot, and general handling. If you are unsure whether yours is still doing anything, bring it in and we will look at it.

How much ventilation do you need?

Fixed vents are simple and light. Adjustable vent systems let you dial airflow as you go, which is genuinely useful on variable Australian days where the morning is cold and midday is sweating weather.
