Independent Stage 4 Trucks Polished Silver | 146 (Pair)
Nothing turns like a Stage 4 Indy.
The Independent Stage 4 is an update of the original single wing hanger design Independent introduced in 1986. The 146 has a 8.375" axle for decks around 8.125" to 8.625", and it's made for skaters who love classic Indy looks and a super quick, responsive turn, from bowls to retro street.
It runs tried and true Indy geometry at the classic 55mm height, with an A356 T6 aluminium hanger and baseplate, an SCM435 chromoly steel axle and a Grade 8 kingpin. 90a Original cushions with the printed bar logo give stability, rebound and snap, and the 6-hole universal baseplate takes old and new school mounting patterns.

What Size Board Does It Fit?
Match the truck's axle width to your deck width, ideally within about 1/4" either side. Too narrow feels twitchy and unstable; too wide and the wheels stick out past the deck and catch your feet. Here is Independent's official size chart for the Stage 4.
| Truck size | Axle width | Best board width |
|---|---|---|
| 136 | 8.0" | 7.8"–8.2" |
| 146 | 8.375" | 8.125"–8.625" |
| 151 | 8.625" | 8.375"–8.875" |
| 166 | 9.0" | 8.5"–9.5" |
| 215 | 10.0" | 9.5"–10.5" |
Stage 4 sizes differ from Stage 11 sizes, so go by axle width rather than the number.
About Independent
Independent Truck Company was founded in 1978 by Richard Novak and Jay Shuirman, the pair behind Santa Cruz Skateboards, together with Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson, whose San Francisco company Ermico Enterprises manufactured the trucks. The first Indys came out that year, and the brand is still based in Santa Cruz, California.
Today Independent is the truck most skaters picture when they think of a skateboard truck. It is known for a stable, predictable turn, a hanger that grinds smooth and a lifetime guarantee under the motto Built to Grind. From the classic Stage 11 to the lower Mid and the featherweight Forged Titanium, there is an Indy for street, park, bowl and old-school shapes, and they all feel familiar the moment you step on.
FAQs
What size board do the Independent Stage 4 146 trucks fit?
Boards from about 8.125" to 8.625" wide. The 146 has a 8.375" axle, sitting between the Stage 11 144 and 149.
Stage 4 vs Stage 11: what's the difference?
Mostly the hanger shape and feel. Stage 4s use the retro single wing hanger and Original cushions for a quick, snappy turn, while Stage 11s have the modern hanger most skaters know. Both are 55mm tall with the same materials and lifetime guarantee.
Do I need risers with Stage 4 Indys?
Usually not. At 55mm they clear wheels 56mm and under. For bigger bowl wheels or a loose setup, add a 1/8" riser to prevent wheelbite.
Do the Independent Stage 4 146 trucks come as a pair?
Yes. You get two trucks, enough to set up one skateboard, with kingpin nuts, axle nuts and bushings fitted. Mounting hardware (bolts) is not included, so grab a set of 7/8" or 1" bolts if you don't have them.
How tight should I set my Stage 4 Indys?
Start with the kingpin nut just snug enough that the bushings sit firmly in the cups, then adjust a quarter turn at a time. Looser turns sharper but can wobble at speed; tighter feels more stable and gives you more pop off the tail. Never back the nut off so far that it isn't fully on the kingpin thread.
