Dakine Poacher 22L Backpack 2025 | Naval Academy
A low-profile 22L ski and snowboard pack for gates, bootpacks and quick laps.
The Dakine Poacher 22L Backpack, here in Naval Academy, is a versatile, low-profile ski and snowboard pack for missions inbounds and out. When the backcountry gates are calling, it has room for your shovel, probe, skins and a spare layer, and it carries close enough to forget it's there.
Back panel access gets you into the main compartment without laying the pack in the snow. A snow-shedding moulded back panel, deployable dual-position helmet carry, oversized fleece-lined goggle pocket and splitboard pole and ice axe loops cover the details. Carry your board vertically or skis diagonally or A-frame, and run an insulated hydration hose or two-way radio handset through the strap.

About Dakine
Dakine started on Maui's North Shore in 1979, when surfer Rob Kaplan began making surf leashes in Haiku. In 1986 the brand moved to Hood River, Oregon, at the foot of Mt Hood, and the snow side took off from there. Dakine is also the crew behind the original Heli Pack, launched in 1996 as a low-volume pack for backcountry riders and skiers.
Today Dakine is known for packs that are built by riders and tested hard on the hill. Its team signature packs carry the names of riders like Jamie Anderson, Red Gerard and Sammy Carlson, and the range runs from everyday school and work packs to dedicated backcountry touring packs. If you want a bag that's sorted, tough and easy to live with, Dakine is a name riders have trusted for decades.
FAQs
Will the Poacher 22L carry my snowboard?
Yes. It has vertical snowboard carry, and skis or a splitboard go on diagonally or A-frame. The straps keep your board tight to the pack for bootpacks.
Is it avalanche-tool ready?
Yes. A dedicated snow tools pocket with sleeves holds your shovel and probe, separate from your layers. The tools aren't included. Recommended for any trip beyond the ropes: do an avalanche safety course and always carry a transceiver, shovel and probe, and know how to use them.
Does it fit a hydration bladder?
Yes. It's insulated hydration compatible, or you can run a two-way radio handset instead. A reservoir isn't included.
Is 22L enough for backcountry?
For quick laps and short tours, yes: shovel, probe, skins and a spare layer. For full days or bigger kits, the Poacher 32L or 40L give you more room.
How do I clean it?
Empty it, shake out snow and grit, then spot clean with mild soap, cold water and a soft brush. Air dry fully, opened up, before storing. Don't machine wash.

Let customers speak for us
Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
