Powell Peralta Skeleton Flight Deck | 8.0"
Bones Deep. Built to Last.
The Skeleton is one of Powell Peralta's own house graphics — not a pro model, but a Powell original with roots in the same visual language as the Bones brand and the culture that built it. It's a board for riders who want the Powell name, the Powell quality, and a clean, timeless graphic that holds up on the streets and in the park without announcing itself too loudly. At 8.0", the Skeleton sits right in the sweet spot of modern all-around street and park skating — wide enough for confident landings, narrow enough to flip cleanly, and built in Flight construction so it rides better and lasts longer than anything in the 7-ply category.
Flight construction is a genuine structural departure from traditional 7-ply maple. Powell builds these decks in their Ventura, California facility using US hard rock maple fused with high-strength fibreglass and AirLam via an epoxy resin system — replacing the standard wood glue used in conventional decks with a composite bond that is fundamentally more durable. The result is a deck that is thinner than your phone, lighter than a standard 7-ply, and more than twice as strong in tail break tests. The epoxy-infused, fibre-reinforced structure resists delamination, holds edge integrity at the nose and tail far longer, and maintains pop for months rather than weeks. The K26 concave is medium-to-mellow with a symmetrical double kick — the nose and tail sit closer together than on older Powell molds with a larger radius at both ends, giving you smooth, precise flicks and reliable pop without aggressive cupping that fatigues your feet. Shape 242 is Powell's modern popsicle mold, proportioned for contemporary street and park skating.

What width is right for me?
At 8.0", the Skeleton is the standard all-around width — the most popular choice for riders who skate street, park, and everything in between. It suits most adult shoe sizes from US 8 through to about US 11 comfortably, and it's the go-to for technical tricks where you need a board that flips cleanly but still lands predictably. If you're coming from a narrower deck (7.75" or below) it'll feel more stable under your feet; if you're used to 8.25" or wider, it'll feel more nimble. Not sure if 8.0" is right for you? Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Flight construction worth the extra cost over a standard 7-ply?
A standard skateboard deck is seven plies of maple pressed with water-based glue — proven technology, but with a lifespan tied directly to how hard and how often you skate. The wood compresses, loses pop, and chips at the nose and tail faster than most riders would like. Flight construction replaces the glue with epoxy resin and adds fibreglass reinforcing layers through the stack, creating a composite structure that is stronger, lighter, and holds its pop dramatically longer. Practically speaking: you'll still wear the deck down through use, but it'll take substantially longer, the pop will feel consistent for much more of the deck's life, and you'll get better edge integrity at the nose and tail. For regular skaters who go through a deck every few weeks, Flight often works out comparable in cost-per-session to buying cheaper decks more frequently — with better performance throughout.
What trucks, wheels, and hardware work with an 8.0" deck?
For an 8.0" deck, the ideal truck axle width is 139mm–149mm — Independent Stage 11 139mm is the classic choice, Thunder 145mm works well, as does Venture 5.6 or Ace 55. For wheels, street-focused riders typically run 51mm–53mm at 99a–101a for a responsive, snappy feel on smooth surfaces. If you're mixing park and street, 53mm–55mm at 95a–99a gives more grip and cushion for landings. Hardware: 7/8" bolts are standard without risers; 1" bolts if you're adding a 1/8" riser. Come into the store and we'll build the full setup for you, or talk you through it on 03 9421 2293.
Is the Skeleton graphic a collector piece or built to be skated?
The Skeleton in Flight construction is built to skate — full stop. Powell does produce collector and display decks in standard 7-ply with premium graphics, but the Flight version is their performance line. The graphic on the Skeleton is clean and durable, but this isn't a board you need to baby. Ride it, skate it hard, and when it eventually wears out, it'll have outlasted most decks you could have bought instead. Griptape is sold separately — we can apply it in store before you pick it up, or include it ungripped if you prefer to do it yourself at home.
About Powell Peralta
Founded in 1978 by Stacy Peralta and George Powell in Santa Barbara, California, Powell Peralta is one of the most important companies in skateboarding history — home to the Bones Brigade and the team that defined professional skating through the 1980s. George Powell brought an engineer's obsession with materials science to deck construction from day one, and Flight technology is the direct continuation of that philosophy. Powell Peralta still manufactures in the USA, uses non-solvent-based inks and paints for their graphics, and produces some of the most technically advanced decks available anywhere. Every Flight deck is warranted against delamination for its useful life — that's how confident they are in the construction.
