Z-Flex Ruins To Roses Roundtail Longboard | 39.5"
Maple, black oak and gold. A Venice story you can ride.
The Ruins to Roses Roundtail is the cornerstone of a series that tells the story of the Pacific Ocean Pier in Venice Beach: the birthplace of the Z-Boys, its burning and decline, and the new generation of skaters and surfers who rose from it. Black oak veneers meet gold print and hardware. It's a versatile roundtail longboard for every level.
The deck is 8-ply: 6 plies of Canadian hard rock maple and 2 plies of black oak. It runs Z-Flex 45° 180mm reverse kingpin trucks with soft 90A cushions, which sit lower and feel more stable than standard trucks, and big, soft 69mm 83A wheels for a smooth roll. Spray grip keeps the black oak on show, and the kicktail adds control.

About Z-Flex
Z-Flex is one of skateboarding's original brands. It was started in 1976 by Kent Sherwood, Jay Adams's stepfather, a fibreglass craftsman who had been building boards for the Zephyr team in Dogtown, the Santa Monica and Venice Beach stretch of the California coast. When Sherwood split from Zephyr he took Jay Adams and a handful of Z-Boys with him under the name EZ-Ryder, and within six months the brand became Z-Flex.
Z-Flex lays claim to the first skateboard with a concave top and to a smoother-riding wheel that helped shape the soft wheels most riders use today. Its current range still draws straight from that history: the P.O.P, Ruins to Roses, Banana Train, Surf-a-gogo and Aragon Cheetah series all take their stories from Pacific Ocean Park and the Dogtown scene. Riders choose Z-Flex for easy-riding cruisers, longboards and surfskates with real heritage, set up to be fun from the first push.
FAQs
What is the Z-Flex Ruins to Roses Roundtail best for?
The daily commute, surf checks and long coastal cruises. The stable deck, low reverse kingpin trucks and soft 69mm wheels make it one of the smoothest rides in the Z-Flex range. It's easy enough for beginners and relaxed enough for experienced riders.
Is a 39.5" longboard the right size for me?
It suits most teens and adults, from first-timers to experienced riders. At 39.5" long and 9.5" wide, it's a stable, roomy deck that's still manageable to carry. If you want something more compact, a Z-Flex 38" pintail or 31" surfskate is lighter, and for even more stability on long rides, look at the 41.5" drop-throughs.
Is the Ruins to Roses Roundtail good for beginners?
Yes. The long, wide deck, reverse kingpin trucks and soft 69mm wheels are stable and forgiving, and Z-Flex designs the roundtail for all levels. It's an easy board to learn pushing, carving and foot-braking on.
What's the difference between drop-through and top-mount?
The Ruins to Roses Roundtail is a top-mount: the trucks bolt under the deck, so you stand a little higher and get more leverage over the trucks. That makes it carvier and more responsive, which suits relaxed cruising and surf-style turns. A drop-through sits lower for extra stability and easier pushing on long commutes, so pick the Z-Flex 41.5" drop-through range if distance is your priority.
Can I commute on the Ruins to Roses Roundtail?
Yes. The soft 69mm wheels roll over cracks and rough footpaths and hold speed well, and the reverse kingpin trucks keep it steady. It's longer than a cruiser, so it's less handy to carry onto crowded trains.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.
