Australia’s 2025 snowboard season is turning into one of the deepest and most reliable winters in recent memory. A series of strong early-season snowfalls followed by consistent storms has built up a phenomenal base—and with lift networks running near full capacity, the season is delivering across all major resorts. There's strong potential for riding to extend all the way into late September. After 2 years of Covid shutdowns followed by a couple very ordinary years 2025 feels like we hit the jackpot but in all honesty this is right on the average and is exactly where we are supposed to be.

Snowfall has already delivered serious base depths. At Perisher, the upper slopes have reached around 170 cm, with approximately 140 to 150 cm lower down, and the resort has sustained coverage on around 74% of its 65 km of terrain with 43 of 47 lifts running. Thredbo and Charlotte Pass are seeing similar accumulation, with 115 to 160 cm of snow reported on upper elevations. Mount Hotham boasts around 122 cm of upper slope snow, and Falls Creek is sitting at about 113 cm, while Mount Buller has ranged from 90 to 106 cm. These snow depths are well above average and support a healthy season outlook.
Lift operation is nearly unsurpassed. At Perisher, 43 out of 47 lifts are turning. Similar performance is found across other resorts, with Thredbo, Falls Creek, and Hotham running almost every lift daily. This high lift capacity means access to most groomers, back bowls, parks, and higher alpine zones remains open.

🎿 Riding Into September? It’s on the Table
Riding into September is looking highly likely. The season officially runs until late September, and with strong snow coverage, reliable lift access, and colder overnight conditions—plus long-range forecasts hinting at a cooler, more stable spring—resorts such as Perisher, Thredbo, and Falls Creek are well-positioned to remain open right through. This opens opportunities for quieter crowds and soft, spring riding that often turns out to be a local's favourite time of year.
What this means for snowboarders is simple: every major terrain zone is riding well—from powder stashes to groomed cruisers and park features. High capacity lifts minimize bottlenecks. And if coverage remains stable, September riding may just become the highlight of the season.
🏂 What It Means for Snowboarders
-
Every Terrain Is Riding: From groomed blues and grooming runs to powder tree runs—everything is available.
-
Lift Access Is Strong: High capacity means no bottlenecks and easy access to peak runs and back bowls.
-
Extended Season Potential: Floating into mid‑September is realistic—especially if snow holds and night temps stay low.
